Grab bars installed, starting at $329
Grab bar installation in Ottawa
For anyone who wants a steady hand in the bathroom, and for families who would like a parent to have one. We supply two stainless steel grab bars and install them in one visit, starting at $329 plus HST. The installer places them with you, where they will actually help, and secures them to studs or with load-rated anchors, with no drywall opening and no wall repairs. Request online or call 613.794.2040, and we call you to schedule the visit.

What is included
Two bars, supplied and installed
A grab bar is most useful before the day it is needed. The package covers everything for two bars, start to finish.
- Two stainless steel grab bars (up to 24 inches), supplied and professionally installed
- Bars are secured to wall studs or with load-rated anchors
- Installation requires no drywall opening and no wall repairs
- Placement is advised on-site by the installer
Does not include
- Wall reinforcement. Fibreglass and acrylic tub or shower surrounds usually need it before a bar can be safely mounted; it is identified during the visit and quoted separately before any work proceeds. The package price is not affected.

How it works
Request, a call, one visit
- 1
You request
Use the online request form or call 613.794.2040. Add any extra or longer bars you have in mind; you do not need to know the exact spots yet.
- 2
We call to schedule
Intended for a quick response: our team prioritizes grab bar requests and calls you to schedule the visit.
- 3
One visit
The installer walks the room with you, agrees where each bar goes, where your hand naturally reaches, and installs them. Anything extra, like reinforcement for a fibreglass surround, is quoted first.
Where grab bars help
The places a hand goes looking
A grab bar is not only for the shower. The best spots are wherever you pause, turn, step up or change position during the day. These are the three we are asked about most.
By the toilet
Sitting down and standing up is where a bar earns its place every day. Most people like a bar on the side wall they naturally reach toward, and sometimes a second one behind. We look at which way you turn, which hand you favour and where the toilet paper holder sits, then place the bar so it is simply there when your hand goes looking for it.
In the tub and shower
Stepping over a tub edge, standing on a wet floor and turning to reach the tap all ask a lot of your balance. A vertical bar at the entry gives you something solid to hold as you step in and out. A horizontal or angled bar along the long wall helps while you wash or lower yourself to a seat. We test the reach with you before anything is drilled.
At entrances and stairs
Inside the front or back door, a bar helps where you step up or down, set down groceries or pull on winter boots. At the top or bottom of a short run of steps, a short vertical bar gives you a hand to hold while you find your footing. A full-length stair handrail or an outdoor railing is a different job; see entrances, ramps and railings.
Railings and full stair handrails are covered under entrances, ramps and railings.
Tile, drywall and surrounds
What is behind the wall matters
A grab bar is only as good as what holds it. Ours are secured to wall studs or with load-rated anchors, so the bar can take your weight the day you lean on it, not just hang there.
Drywall and tile. Most bathroom walls, tiled or painted, take a bar secured to the studs or with load-rated anchors. The installer checks the wall at the visit and places each bar where it can be secured properly.
Fibreglass and acrylic surrounds. A one-piece tub or shower surround is a thin shell with a gap behind it. It usually needs reinforcement before a bar can be safely mounted. We identify that during the visit and quote it separately before any work proceeds; the package price is not affected.
Suction-cup bars. They are handy for travel, but they are not fixed to the wall and are not a substitute for a secured grab bar.

Paying for it
Tax credits and programs that list grab bars
Grab bars are named as an eligible item in three programs that Ottawa homeowners use. Each has its own rules, and our guides explain them in full.
Home Accessibility Tax Credit
A federal credit for homeowners 65 or older, or eligible for the Disability Tax Credit, or an eligible family member who lives with them. For 2026 it is worth 14% of up to $20,000 in eligible expenses, and grab bars are on the list. Renters do not qualify.
Read our HATC guideOntario Renovates, City of Ottawa
For income-eligible Ottawa homeowners who are 65 or older, have a disability, or live with someone who does. Its accessibility grant of up to $5,000 lists grab bars. The City must approve the work in writing before it starts.
Read our Ontario Renovates guideHome and Vehicle Modification Program
Run by March of Dimes Canada for Ontario residents with a permanent disability that affects mobility, within its income limits. Grab bars are an eligible item. Work must wait for written approval.
Read our HVMP guidePlanning to use Ontario Renovates or the Home and Vehicle Modification Program? Call us before you book, and we will plan the visit around the program: both need written approval before the work, and work done earlier is not eligible. The tax credit is claimed on your return after the work, so keep your invoice.
Thinking beyond grab bars? Our free Home Safety Assessment looks at the whole home with you and reviews what else might help, along with the programs you may qualify for. See all our grant guides.
