Stairs and entrances

Handrails, Installed

Custom to your front steps, porch and stairs. Drawn before it is built.

Every rail is measured on site and drawn before it is built, checked against the handrail requirements of the Ontario Building Code, Part 9, and priced in writing on the day of the visit. Installation is confirmed on site by a Still at Home assessor.

Why it is different

Handrail installation in Ottawa, made for your stairs

Custom designed to your stairs.

Measured on site, then drawn: where the rail anchors, where it turns, how high it sits, how the ends finish. You see the drawing and a fixed price in writing on the day of the visit.

Checked against the code.

Every rail is checked against the handrail requirements of the Ontario Building Code, Part 9: height, grip, clearance from the wall, continuity and end returns. Installation confirmed on site by a Still at Home assessor.

Built to last.

Aluminum handrail with an anti-slip grip, four finishes plus matching hardware colours. One year on labour, five-year guarantee on materials.

Where a rail goes

Anywhere you step up, step down or walk a long way with nothing to hold.

  • Front entrances and porch steps
  • Basement and interior stairs
  • Hallways and long corridors
  • Garage steps
  • Decks and ramps

How it works

How a stair railing is measured, drawn and installed

  1. 1

Book a measure-and-install visit. The assessor measures the stairs and confirms the mounting: wall, post or both.

  2. 2

You see the drawing and the fixed price the same day. Nothing starts without approval in writing.

  3. 3

The rail is built exactly to the drawing, installed, and documented with photos and a written report.

Paying for it

Tax credits and programs for a handrail

Handrails installed to improve safety and access are eligible for the federal Home Accessibility Tax Credit.

Other programs may also apply. Ontario Renovates (City of Ottawa) offers income-eligible homeowners a forgivable loan of up to $15,000 and an accessibility grant of up to $5,000. The Home and Vehicle Modification Program offers up to $15,000 over a lifetime, and needs an occupational therapist assessment. Both need written approval before any work starts.

Still at Home identifies the programs and guides the application.
