Home Accessibility Tax Credit (HATC)
Up to $3,000
15% of up to $20,000 in eligible expenses
Who qualifies: Canadians 65+ or persons eligible for the Disability Tax Credit. Available to homeowners and renters.
Multigenerational Home Renovation Tax Credit (MHRTC)
Up to $7,500
Refundable — 15% of up to $50,000
Who qualifies: Building a self-contained secondary suite for a senior (65+) or adult with a disability to live with family.
Ontario Renovates (Ottawa)
Up to $20,000
$15K forgivable loan + $5K grant
Who qualifies: Low-to-moderate income homeowners in Ottawa. Income and asset tested by the City of Ottawa.
Home and Vehicle Modification Program (HVMP)
Up to $15,000
Lifetime maximum for home modifications
Who qualifies: Permanent mobility-impacting disability. Income-tested. Requires an Occupational Therapy assessment.
Assistive Devices Program (ADP)
Up to 75%
Of approved device cost (stair lifts, ceiling lifts, etc.)
Who qualifies: Valid OHIP, long-term physical disability (6+ months). Requires OT or physiotherapist authorization.
Veterans Independence Program (VIP)
Up to $7,729/yr
Annual home adaptation benefit (2025)
Who qualifies: Canadian veterans receiving a VAC disability benefit, War Veterans Allowance, or POW Compensation.
Medical Expense Tax Credit (METC)
~20% effective
Stacks with HATC on the same expenses
Who qualifies: Severe and prolonged impairment where the renovation is medically necessary. Documentation-driven.
